Would you like a magazine? :-)

A federal law enforcement officer left a loaded gun magazine (no, not “Guns and Ammo” :-) but an actual magazine for the ammunition of a weapon) on a Southwest Airlines flight from Burbank, California to Phoenix, Arizona! The discovery was made after the plane landed, according to a member of a CNN crew aboard the flight.

The full magazine (clip) was left in a back seat pocket and is believed to have been left by a member of federal law enforcement, NOT an air marshall. The federal agent was on a flight that originated in San Jose :-) and landed in Burbank!

The magazine was turned over to the Southwest crew working the flight, who called local authorities. The plane was inspected before being returned to service and passengers who remained on the flight were re-screened. The federal officer had followed proper protocols to get the weapon on the plane, and authorities were in the process of returning the magazine.

The CNN article said that a child crawling across the seats toward a window knocked the magazine from the seat back to the floor of the aircraft.

In view of the invasive screening procedures currently employed (and viewed as “reasonable”) by TSA and the utterly bizarre (and probably unconstitutional) firearms laws in place in California, I find the incompetent handling of an ammunition magazine by a federal agent inexcusable. “Do as I say, not as I do,” comes to  mind. :-)
