Governor Schwarzenegger honors Victor Perez
I like to honor heroes in this blog.
Today, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger honored the good Samaritan, Victor Perez, who rescued an abducted 8-year-old girl, calling him a “true action hero.” On Tuesday, Perez, 29, of Fresno, recognized and chased a vehicle carrying the girl, who had been sexually assaulted hours earlier. Perez is the father of two boys and is an unemployed construction carpenter who has been working at minimum wage recently, cutting wine grapes.
Schwarzenegger called for an employer to hire Perez.
At approximately 6:45 AM Tuesday, Perez was outside his house talking with his cousin about the abduction, when he saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle. Perez jumped into his white 1988 Ford pickup and gave chase, cutting in four times before he caused the reddish-brown Chevrolet to stop.
Immediately after the vehicle stopped, Perez saw that the girl was out. He believes that the driver pushed the girl out. Perez yelled for residents of the neighborhood to get the girl a blanket.
Approximately 40 minutes later, the police caught up and arrested the unarmed suspect, Gregorio Gonzalez, 24, of Fresno. Charges will include kidnapping, false imprisonment, and sexual assault.
