Apple: 300K iPads sold on first day

Apple sold 300,000 iPads in the United States on the first day that it was available in stores.

So, it looks like A LOT of people out there have creativity and imagination! I’m REALLY glad!

The iPad users also downloaded over one million apps from the App Store and over 250,000 ebooks on the first day!

Heckuva day! :-)

Shaw Wu, an analyst at Kaufman Brothers was quoted as expecting Apple to sell 10 million iPads over the next 12 months and perhaps as many as 20 million in 2011. You can read other estimates in the CNN Money article.

Talk is cheap. :-)

Analysts estimate that Apple sold 300,000 (safe bet! :-) ) to 700,000 iPads over the weekend.

No, I did not buy one and will not for some time. I wrote a bit about iPad earlier. There is now some telephony software (voice over IP) available for the device, and there is plenty of room for surprises when the 3G model comes out later this month.

I believe (no insider knowledge) that the iPad will someday have a video camera for videoconferencing. I want one of those. I believe that the omission was deliberate and was network-traffic related.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) will release a slate computer with two :-) video cameras, a USB connection, and support for Flash animation. But it will be an HP…. :-)

I don’t expect iPad to ever support Flash, but I have been wrong before. :-)

Some of my friends who work at Apple, and others who have tech jobs and disposable incomes, already have purchased their iPads. I am looking forward to hearing from them! If you have comments, please post them here!
