Creativity and imagination

A lot of people have no creativity or imagination whatsoever.

And that’s OK…. :-)

Many of them are compensated for the lack by the fact that they run the world, and some multinational corporations.

I once had a very likable young manager who privately told me that he did not “have a creative bone in his body.” :-) He was a very good manager and had the perception to realize his weaknesses. (…or “know his limitations.“)

And there are some people who have trouble “thinking outside of the box…” I used to joke with folks that at least one of the companies that employed me MADE “boxes!” :-)

There is room on this planet for all of the people who live here, with their wide variety of personality types and gifts (and limitations).

(I just shut down one of the three tasks that I was working on simultaneously, so that I could focus better on THIS one! :-) I realized that I had just published this entry prematurely, so you get to watch a true “work in progress” by a nonlinearly-thinking author.) :-) (Hmmmm… maybe that’s what an “editor” is!)

Near the end of January, I wrote about the iPad and Arthur  C. Clarke’s “Third Law.” At that time, with my upbringing as a biologist, I saw the iPad as a “transiitonal life form” that may become the computer of the future that we carry with us. Apple has a habit of creatively “leading” with its hardware and not telling us all of their thoughts about potential uses, which forces us to “think for ourselves!” :-) (… or even to “Think Different!“) :-)

Regrettably, this leaves a lot of the unimaginative people (who run the world) scratching their heads. :-)

TODAY, I wandered over to a “CNN GO ASIA BETA” page that will help some of them. The article is entitled, “Wanted: The top 10 ultimate travel apps for iPad.” OK, maybe not all of the 10 apps “hit a home run” for “usefulness,” but they show that the author, Jean Snow, is THINKING! (There is even the implied suggestion that the Apple iPad could become the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (1, 2, 3) for the traveler/tourist/”rest of us.”)

Remember – these 10 ideas are confined to TRAVEL! What about everything ELSE? :-)

So, if you have joined the unimaginative folks who have “poo-pooed” the idea of the iPad (before thinking about it), you may want to read the article, and “think again!” (And some of you developers may want to grab one of the ideas and start coding….)
