Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad politics

When Carly Fiorina, former Hewlett-Packard CEO launched her first Web site in the campaign for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer‘s seat, The Huffington Post called Fiorina’s site “…the most insufferable thing she’s ever done in her life,” (which takes in a lot of turf :-) ).

Well, RECORDS were MADE to be BROKEN! :-)

I wrote about the first Web site back in September of 2009. Part of the Web site is still drawing a “404 Error.” (The term “404” is ALSO tech slang for “clueless” and a few other things….) A YouTube video MOCKING the original Web site called it “The Worst Political Website Ever.” (Fiorina’s people have figured out how to do a REAL Web site here, while still cluttering the Web with the remnants of the earlier one.)

(Note added March 14, 2010: Although “someone” (“Web designer” is too kind a term) from Carly’s team has gone back to the original Web site to clean it up a bit, part of the page is STILL drawing a “404” error! If this is the type of behavior that we should expect in PUBLIC, what type of behavior should we expect in PRIVATE? :-) )

I wonder if THE AUTHORS of the mock video have updated their opinion, as well!

As I wrote later, on November 5, 2009, Carly Fiorina:

“…the architect of one of the arguably worst mergers in tech history, forced out of HP with a $21 million severance package, long-time non-voter, announced officially today <on November 5, 2009> that she will run as a Republican against Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California) (if Fiorina wins the Republican primary).”

A BIG “IF…!”

Fiorina has “come out swinging” in that first battle, against fellow Republicans. Her “Demon Sheep Ad” (not to be confused with Monty Python’s “Killer Sheep” sketch) against fellow Republican Tom Campbell (“FCINO:-) Get serious!) has drawn a lot of views, not all of whom LIKE it! :-) (Stats of a poll that I saw on one site show that 69% of “locals” are BORED by the ad right now!)

So who are the REST of the SHEEP? WE, voters…? Is that what Fiorina thinks of us? (It is always so hard to tell in “mixed metaphors.” :-)

(In my September post, I mentioned that you might like to see this YouTube video of a Carly Fiorina interview on the subject of “offshoring,” in which she “blames outsourcing on corporate tax rates.” I wondered “whether she agrees with the Harvard Business School folks who published estimates that up to 42% of U.S. jobs could be offshored.”) California ACTUALLY “achieved” 42% unemployment in the Central Valley city of Mendota at one point in the latest recession, and I invited the Harvard Business School folks to come and take a look.)

I mentioned in my November entry that this is the kind of political race that people in other parts of the U.S. view as “entertainment” (baaaaaaaaaaaaad entertainment?). :-)

It IS however, programming that we in California are afraid to “turn off” because we will have to LIVE with the results. Fiorina’s latest (“fireball”) video is here.

Whether this “20-year veteran with AT&T:-) is an example of the “Peter Principle” (“failing upward” as some have suggested) or what California needs in the U.S. Senate will be up to us voters to decide. “The Dilbert Principle” need NOT apply, since PEOPLE are smarter than CORPORATIONS.

Don’t switch off the programming until after election day.
