Two for the money…
Two articles about money (one of them about photography) caught my eye today:
The first is the odd case of Annie Leibovitz, world-famous photographer, who has photographed folks from the Rolling Stones, to John Lennon and Yoko Ono very shortly before Lennon’s death, to Queen Elizabeth II, to a very pregnant, nude Demi Moore, and who could now lose the right to her entire portfolio of famous photographs if she does not meet a deadline to repay a $24 million loan that she is alleged to owe.
Leibovitz put her art, intellectual property and real estate assets up for collateral last year while consolidating her debts. The Art Capital Group, which restructured the debts, says that Leibovitz agreed ” to make Art Capital her ‘irrevocable exclusive agent'” of the assets “in exchange for a reduced interest rate on the loan,” according to the CNN article. Now the company is suing Leibovitz for breach of contract.
The second article, from CNN Money, says that the Nasdaq hit its highest point in 11 months today and the Dow and S&P 500 also climbed “as commodity shares rallied, and General Electric was upgraded.” Commodity prices surged. The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) gained 56 points and ended close to 10-month highs. The S&P 500 (SPX) index added 9 points and ended close to 11-month highs.
