Apple’s new iPhone to be unveiled on October 4!
An Apple press event was announced a couple of days ago, but I would be remiss if I did not mention it here.
Apple confirmed on Tuesday that it would hold a press event at its Cupertino headquarters on October 4. The “main event” is expected to be the announcement of iPhone 5. The iPhone 4 went on sale 15 months ago. This has been the longest “break” between models since the iPhone was first released in 2007. Josh Lowensohn presented a creative “translation” of Apple’s iPhone event invitation in his column on Tuesday.\
Demand for the iPhone 4 has been insatiable. In the second quarter, Apple sold a record 20 million of these, and an early analysis suggests another record quarter over the last four months. Meanwhile, an RBC Capital survey shows “unprecedented demand for the iPhone 5!
Personally, I understand an unprecedented demand. If I am going to be locked into a 2-year contract with a telecommunications company, it had BETTER be with a device that won’t be obsolete in year #1. I have been waiting for an iPhone on 1) Verizon (having served SBC [“the old AT&T”] as a vendor) and 2) on the LTE network, for a long time. Well, iPhone FINALLY made it to Verizon. It remains to be seen whether iPhone 5 will work on Verizon’s LTE network. If it won’t, I will wait for a version that WILL.
