Yeah, I said that some of my physicist friends get their jollies in weird ways!
But not like THIS guy…!
Rezwan Ferdaus, a U.S. citizen from Ashland, Massachusetts, planned to use model aircraft filled with C-4 plastic explosives to attack the U.S. Capitol and Pentagon! Ferdaus, 26, was arrested today and charged with plotting the attack with model aircraft! An undercover investigation by the FBI allowed Ferdaus to be charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to al Qaeda for attacks on U.S. soldiers overseas. Ferdaus has a physics degree from Northeastern University in Boston.
“There is no information to indicate he was connected to a foreign terrorist organization. It appears he was radicalized watching videos on the internet. He was given the opportunity to back down, but he never wavered” from his intention to carry out the attacks, the source said.
Hint: they know what you are watching on the Internet.

Ferdaus began to plan a violent jihad against American in early 2010, and he began to supply FBI agents with cell phones that were rigged to act as switches for improvised explosive devices designed to kill U.S. soldiers overseas.
Undercover federal agents gave Ferdaus 25 pounds of “fake” C4 explosive, only a part of which was the “real thing.” The agents ALSO gave Ferdaus six AK47 assault rifles and three grenades that weren’t functional! Ferdaus was apparently radicalized watching videos on the Internet!
(All of you QA people out there are probably screaming by now: “Test, and test again!” )
Between May and September 2011, Ferdaus ordered a $6,500 remote-controlled F-86 Sabre model aircraft that he kept in a rented storage facility in Framingham, Massachusetts (a nice town that I visited while doing software installations for DNA and protein sequence database information at a local biotech company).
Ferdaus is unmarried with no children.
A detention hearing is scheduled for Monday, and a federal magistrate has ordered Ferdaus to be held until then.
