Mount Whitney hikers: last 2 found safe
I wrote earlier about three of five missing hikers on Mount Whitney who were found and rescued after a storm dropped up to three feet of snow on the mountain.
Good news….
The last two missing hikers, Sina Sadeghi Baghsorkhin, 27, and his father, Abdolreza Sadeghi, 56, walked out of the wilderness area at about 1 AM on Thursday, about 50 miles from their intended exit point. The father and son were uninjured.
“On Thursday, three hikers — Phillip Michael Abraham, 34; Stevan James Filips, 43; and Dale Clymens, 45; all of Omaha — were plucked off the mountain by a rescue crew in a helicopter. That group had taken refuge from a blinding snowstorm in a rock hut during a 3 1⁄2-day ordeal. Only one of them was carrying a sleeping bag, according to hikers who spoke with them.”
What began as mere day trips under blue skies ended with more than 75 searchers looking for the hikers after storms came.
Have appropriate gear for survival in California’s wilderness areas.
