Verizon Wireless will start selling Apple iPad in its stores starting on October 28, 2010. Three iPad bundles will be offered, ALL with an iPad Wi-Fi model and a separate Verizon mobile hotspot device. Prices range from $630 for a 16 GB iPad to $830 for the 64 GB model. Verizon will also sell stand-alone Wi-Fi-only iPads, starting at $500.

The Apple partnership with Verizon is the first time Apple has partnered with a U.S. wireless carrier other than AT&T.

Verizon’s mobile hotspot allows the connection of up to five other devices.

According to the report in CNNMoney:

“There are a few drawbacks, though. The battery on Verizon’s mobile Wi-Fi device only lasts four hours, compared to the nine to 10 hours Apple estimates iPad users can get from their devices while surfing on Wi-Fi or 3G networks. And although Verizon’s smartphone data plans offer unlimited data use, the company isn’t being so generous with its iPad data cap. A monthly plan offering up to 1 GB of data will cost an additional $20. That compares to $15 on AT&T for a 250 MB data plan, or $25 for a 2 GB plan.”

Some experts think that the competition will be good for customers.

Laura DiDio, principal analyst with ITIC said:

“Basically, Apple figured out a way for the carriers and stores to do the selling for it, which is very clever,” noted DiDio. “Soon we’ll see it on every carrier, which will only fuel price wars and demand — everyone is going to want an iPad.”

In addition to Verizon stores, iPads will also be sold in AT&T’s 2,200 retail stores on October 28, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target.
