There’s a MARKET for that!
Apple is now the third largest seller of “personal computers” (“PC” is too cruel a joke) in the United States, with a 10.6% market share in the third quarter of 2010, the HIGHEST market share in the company’s history. 
Apple shipped 1.99 million Macs in the U.S. during the quarter, of the 18.9 million personal computers shipped in the U.S., according to the Quarterly PC Tracker Survey released by IDC today.
It makes me feel good to know that people in the U.S. are getting smarter! I’m glad that they’re doing it while I am still alive to see it.
Incidentally, Apple was granted a trademark for the slogan, “There’s an app for that™,” so be careful out there!
Apple ranked third behind Hewlett-Packard’s 24.3% share and Dell’s 23.1% share, although the market share of HP and Dell remained relatively stagnant over the last year. Apple’s shipments grew 24% from the same quarter in 2009. The entire U.S. “PC” market grew only 3.8% from a year ago, despite forecasts of 11% growth, which means that Apple’s shipments of Macintosh GREW AT EIGHT TIMES THE RATE OF EVERYONE ELSE’S!
Every now and then, I enjoy having my own intelligence validated. Especially by some Windows disciples who have finally come out of “denial….”
According to CNET, IDC analyst David Daoud attributes some of the growth in Macintosh sales to the “halo effect” of the iPad, as happened with iPod and iPhone raising sales across Apple’s product lines. Apple sold over 3 million iPads between April and June!
Apple will host a special event on October 20 dedicated to Macintosh and MacOS X. The event will occur at Town Hall on Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California, at 10 AM. With the image that was sent accompanying the invitation for “Back to the Mac,” could the next version of the MacOS X be called “Lion?”
