Mac Trojan
The security firm F-Secure has discovered 32 variants of a trojan that attacks Macintoshes and was discovered last week, as reported by CNET. There is also a Windows variant, of course.
Last week, Intego issued an alert that warned Mac users of OSX.RSPlug.A malware, which it described as a Trojan horse. This report was also mentioned by CNET.
The 32 variants reported by F-Secure carry the same payload as the beast described by Intego and alter an infected computer’s DNS system, redirecting to various porn sites, where clicks on ads yield a monetary return.
The malware also reports the name of the computer and operating system version to an IP address in the Ukraine.
I cite the links here because many photographers use Macintoshes, which have been, until recently, seldom targeted in malware attacks.
