Ten feet of new snow for Tahoe?

The week-long series of winter storms that are expected to bring much needed rain to the Bay Area and the potential for mudslides in Southern California may drop up to 10 feet of snow around Lake Tahoe!

Meteorologist Robert Baruffaldi said that the series of storms will likely last through Friday and that, with each storm being a little colder than the previous, snow levels will drop to around 3,000 to 4,000 feet (914 – 1,219 m) of elevation by mid-to-late week.

Up to 10 feet (3 m) of new snow is expected in higher elevations, which is good news for the Sierra snowpack, since the region is already in its third year of drought.

(Not to mention that it’s good news for all of you skiers and snowboarders out there…. :-) )

(Note added January 25, 2010: “Only” EIGHT feet of new snow fell last week, but don’t worry! Another storm is bringing more moisture TODAY! :-) )
