Alibaba Group of China criticizes Yahoo!
The Alibaba Group of China has criticized Yahoo (which owns 40% of the Alibaba Group) for siding with Google about recent cyberattacks on 34 U.S. companies, including Google (and, reportedly, Yahoo). CNET cites an article from the NY Times.
(These folks CAN’T be named after the fictional Arabic character with the “40 thieves,” can they? 
Odd “coincidence” in names….)
Yahoo has been reported to be one of the companies that was TARGETED in the attacks, but Yahoo has not admitted to it, which reportedly has irritated folks at Google. (Sorry, Google, very few companies in Silicon Valley follow a motto [official or otherwise] of “Don’t be evil.” )
Yahoo paid Alibaba $1 billion and gave Alibaba control of Yahoo China, in exchange for a 40 percent stake in the Chinese company. Yahoo’s investment in Alibaba paid off. A unit of Alibaba, Alibaba.com, went public in 2007 and is now valued at $12.5 billion.
Meanwhile, I think that we all owe a debt of gratitude to CNET News (and Elinor Mills), who have bitten into the cyberattack story and refused to let go. Thanks, CNET!
