Between the third quarter of 2008 and the third quarter of 2009, Windows Mobile lost 28% of its smartphone market share according to Gartner.

In Q3 2008, Gartner data shows that Microsoft’s mobile operating system had 11% of the global smartphone market. One year later, it had 7.9%. Karma-time?

In comparison, iPhone’s market share rose from 12.9% to 17.1%, and Research in Motion’s market share rose from 16% to 20.8%, in the same period. Symbian’s share dropped 10%, from 49.7% to 44.6%, in the same period.
