You’ve got to ask yourself one question…

Do I feel lucky?

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said that the state was “very lucky” this time.

Los Angeles experienced a magnitude 5.4 earthquake today, which fortunately caused no serious damage or serious injuries. The quake occurred at 11:42 AM PDT, and the quake’s epicenter was 3 miles west-southwest of the city of Chino Hills, in San Bernardino County. The earthquake was felt throughout Southern California as far east as Las Vegas, NV and and far south as San Diego.

The quake was initially classed as a 5.8, then a 5.5, and finally a 5.4. The scale is exponential. A 5.4 quake is classed as moderate by the USGS. The strongest quake that I have experienced personally (so far) was also moderate, a 5.6 last fall.

There is a 99% chance that California will experience a quake of magnitude 6.7 or greater in the next 30 years, according to the Uniform California Earthquake Rupture Forecast sponsored by USGS.
