Whole lotta shakin’ going on…

…but not tonight. The recent tragedy in China makes us all realize the awesome power of earthquakes.

Tonight I wanted to share the links for the “liquefaction susceptibility” interactive map of the San Francisco Bay Area and the USGS (United States Geological Survey) link for earthquakes in the Bay Area. Ironically, (don’t you love irony?) the Susceptibility Map requires the Shockwave player. The earthquake map is the link I keep in my Safari toolbar. The map is skewed a little southward, based on my own interests – you can center it wherever you like.

Oh, if you don’t know what liquefaction susceptibility is, it could be good that you don’t know, or bad that you don’t know, depending upon where you live….

In the immortal words of the cover of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, “Don’t Panic.” In a large quake, there will be enough people doing that.
