Sitting on top of the world…

Surfing at Steamer Lane

I have been continuing the processing of the many, many Mount Diablo photos today and have reached the photos of the summit. Even though there was a little haze in the distance (the clearest conditions are often after a storm in winter), the sweeping views from the top made me feel very much like I was “sitting on top of the world.”

I remembered The Beach Boys song “Catch a Wave”, written by Brian Wilson, and the lyric, “Catch a wave, you’ll be sitting on top of the world.”

The Beach Boys may have been under-appreciated in California, at least I have heard that sentiment expressed. Perhaps this is why, the last that I heard, the musical genius, Brian Wilson, is living in Illinois. The Beach Boys were major proponents of “The California Dream” for the rest of the country, and perhaps the world.

We went to a concert by what remained of The Beach Boys at the Dane County Memorial Coliseum, when we lived in Madison, WI in the 1970s.

The music was still great, and in spite of Jimi Hendrix’s prediction that we’d “never hear surf music again,” the music, and the Dream, live on.
