Web Surfing: Ocean View at the UC Riverside CMP site

“Web Surfing”. I look back at the term with a kind of remembered fondness. I remember when I had time to actually surf the web – so I decided to take the time and do it tonight!

What I found was an exhibition of the past: “Ocean View: The Depiction of Southern California Coastal Lifestyle” at the University of California Riverside’s California Museum of Photography (CMP) site.

Ocean View contains a photographic exhibition (168 images), curator’s statement and introduction to the exhibition, essays on the history of the Los Angeles County Lifeguards, The California Swimsuit, and the Construction and Marketing of Surfer Identity, and even an Ansel Adams 1966 photograph of Scripp’s Pier from the Fiat Lux Collection.

I found the online presentation to be a fascinating comment on the history and the nature of the California Dream.
