Tutankhamun at the de Young

The exhibition, “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs,” opened today at the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA 94118 (phone 415-750-3600).! The exhibit will run until March 28, 2010!

The exhibition requires ticket purchases, even for Members of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF).

The link for the exhibition includes hours for the exhibit, information about a Pharaoh’s Gold Card that will be given to all ticket purchasers, as well as information on Twitter, an RSS feed, and a KQED Forum discussion among FAMSF curator of ancient art Renee Dreyfus, exhibit designer and AEI senior vice president Mark Lach, and Dave Iverson about King Tut and the exhibition. The discussion can be heard through Flash embedding on the exhibition site, KQED’s Web site, and it is downloadable as a podcast!

There is also a King Tut Exhibition Preview of 12 photographic images of some of the objects in the exhibition.

You can purchase tickets online in various categories: Members, General Public, Groups, and School Groups. There is also an FAQ, a list of Sponsors, an online Press Room, online shopping at the de Young Museum Store, and a Fun section where you (kids of all ages) can send a King Tut E-Card or color a Flat Anubis then take it with you and share it with the world on the Museum’s Flat Anubis Flickr group! The “Group” tickets include an option to buy Combination Tickets for the King Tut exhibition and the California Academy of Sciences (1), which is right across the Music Concourse from the de Young.

Enjoy! We plan to attend, and I hope that you Bay Area residents and visitors do, too! See you there!
