$6.6 billion San Francisco budget cuts 1603 positions
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom proposed a $6.6 billion city budget today. The budget cuts 1603 positions, but there were no layoffs of police or firefighters, and the city’s universal health program, Healthy San Francisco, was also spared.
Members of the city’s largest union, Service Employees International Union Local 1021, are voting this Friday on a proposal to return $35-40 million to the city as reductions in paid holidays.
Also uncertain are potential cuts in state funding to San Francisco, which could represent a possible loss of $175.2 million.
The budget proposal will now go to the Board of Supervisors for review and a vote at the end of the month.
