U.S. Army servers breached from Turkey

Wow! Good thing it was an “ally!” 😉

Recently, I learned that the U.S. Army is planning its move from Windows XP to Windows Vista. That’s right, Vista, at a time when 35% of corporate users are moving the other way (not that this is intelligent behavior, either).

Apparently, the Army has added to its reputation by an admission to running SQL Server as well! :-)

Would it be the “patriotic thing” to TALK to these guys? Would they even listen? (My bet is “NO.”)

Malicious crackers based in Turkey breached two U.S. Army Web Servers and redirected traffic to other pages, including one with anti-Israeli and anti-American messages, according to InformationWeek. The group, collectively known as “m0sted” (with a zero) penetrated servers at the Army’s McAlester Ammunition Plant in McAlester, OK on January 26 and a server at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Transatlantic Center in Winchester, VA on September 19, 2007.

Yes, 2007!

How many years does it take to learn from past mistakes?

Investigators believe that a SQL injection attack was used to esploit a vulnerablity in Microsoft’s SQL Server database to gain access to the Army servers, according to InformationWeek.
