MacOS X Update 10.5.7 released

Yes, I’m still downloading it. :-) I am about 109 MB into the 286 MB update.

Apple released the update to Leopard today to fix a variety of bugs and security issues and to expand hardware support. Security fixes related to Apache Web server, PHP, CoreGraphics, and Safari are in the update. Three separate vulnerabilities (each of which could allow for “arbitrary code execution”) are patched in Apple Type Services, QuickDraw Manager, and WebKit.

There is additional support for RAW images and improved video playback and cursor movements for recent Macs with Nvidia graphics.

A variety of other improvements is described in the CNET article. The update is available through a standalone installer or through Software Update.

I chose to blog about the 10.5.7 update tonight (which is still downloading – no, I do not have a T1 or T3 line into my home :-) ) because I have noticed that an increasingly higher (dramatically so) percentage of the traffic to my site is running MacOS X. I hope that I have not offended the PC folks! :-) My reasons for preferring Mac are TWO: 1) superior software and 2) superior hardware. These reasons are succinctly presented in one of the latest Apple ads, “Elimination,” here. Enjoy!

(I just overheard “Elimination” playing on the TV, during “Fringe,” in another room.)

(Note added May 13, 2009: CNET has also decided to cover the “Elimination” ad!)

As for me, I hope to be able to install this update soon, after the download finishes!

(Note added May 12, 2009: The machine came back up after the OS upgrade – something I like about Macs vs. Windows PCs! :-) )
