The contest window (which opened January 1) for the Mavericks Surf Contest has closed for this season. The surfing competition, with its 30-40-foot waves, is usually held between December 1 and March 31. This season did not produce the massive sea swells and coastal weather conditions needed for the contest.
Contest organizers hope for an earlier opening next season, because November 2008 had some of the best surf at Mavericks in 10 years!
