Gold Rush II

Californians who are fed up with the bad economy are rediscovering “The Golden State.” With the price of gold soaring, they are hoping to repeat the experiences of David Perkins, an unemployed aerospace worker from the South Bay, who found close to two pounds of gold in his first year of prospecting, and John Gurney, who came to California from the East Coast and found about $35,000 worth of gold nuggets in a couple of months.

Geologists estimate that during the Gold Rush of 1849, roughly 80% of the gold was never found!

But where to look…?

Experts say that the best place is the Mother Lode area east of Modesto. Gold is also found in Southern Calfornia in the San Gabriel Mountains. One spot is a canyon above Azusa.

As with the original Gold Rush, the folks who are SURE to benefit are the folks who supply the prospectors and miners. One such company is Keene Engineering of Chatsworth, CA, whose business has doubled.
