Jailbreak attempt to free the alleged Lamborghini thief?

Marin County Jail

So, do you remember my blog entry about the 17-year-old who allegedly climbed to the roof of British Motor Cars (the Bentley, Lamborghini, and Lotus dealership on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco), attached a climbing rope, rappelled into the showroom, and drove off with chef Guy Fieri’s 2008, canary-yellow Lamborghini Spyder Gallardo? Oh yeah, the young man was picked up in connection with an incident involving a motorcyclist dressed in all-black clothing and wearing a black helmet, who fired a gun into a parked car on Miller Avenue in Mill Valley in which two people were injured from flying glass.

The saga CONTINUES! 😉

About 4:30 AM today, at least two suspects tried to break into Marin County Juvenile Hall. Staff heard banging on the walls and saw “at least two people out there with a sledge hammer,” said Sheriff’s Lt. Barry Heying. The suspects fled before more than 40 deputies and other officers arrived and searched buildings and the neighborhood. Officials believe that the people with the sledgehammer were trying to free Max Wade (he turned 18 today [happy birthday!] so we can NAME him), “…who is charged with stealing TV chef Guy Fieri’s $200,000 yellow Lamborghini from a San Francisco car dealership in March 2011. The San Rafael teen also faces attempted murder charges for trying to gun down a couple in Mill Valley in April.” Wade, now an adult, was scheduled to be transferred to the county jail for adults.

Wade has pleaded (not “pled” 😉 ) not guilty to attempted murder, vehicle theft (what ever happened to the quaint expression “Grand Theft Auto?” 😉 ), burglary and other crimes. Wade has been charged as an adult and could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

As for the motorcycle-drive-by shooting:

Authorities suspect that Wade, angry over a romantic rejection by a 17-year-old girl, tried to shoot her and her boyfriend while they were sitting in a pickup truck on April 13.

Ah yes. Young love…. 😉

According to the Marin Independent Journal:

Authorities found holes cut into two perimeter fences, bolt cutters, a sledge hammer and a damaged window at Wade’s cell. A backpack that included a change of clothes was found on nearby Huckleberry Road.

Between 7 and 8 a.m., Wade was moved to the adult jail at the Civic Center <photo above>. His bail remains set at $2 million.

If Wade is linked to the Juvenile Hall breach, he could face even more charges, since it is a felony to try to escape from a detention facility.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s department at 499-7233. To remain anonymous and possibly become eligible for a cash reward, call Bay Area Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
