California shark attack map!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water….

The Santa Cruz Sentinel presents a map of shark attacks in California that uses data compiled as far back as 1851, courtesy of www.SharkAttackSurvivors.com, an organization that tracks shark attacks worldwide.

The map uses Google Maps, so you can zoom in, use street view, and also switch between “Map” and “Satellite” views. The actual locations were pinpointed using the best available data, but represent close approximations, in most cases.

Fatal shark attacks are indicated with red markers on the map, and the nonfatal attacks, with blue circles.

Not all of the encounters could be verified, given the nature of shark attacks.
