George Lucas picks co-chair of Lucasfilm
According to a press release today, George Lucas has hand-picked the longtime Hollywood producer, Kathleen Kennedy to be the co-chair of Lucasfilm. Lucas will remain as co-chair and CEO. Micheline Chau will remain as President and COO of Lucasfilm, and she will continue to focus on the day-to-day operations of the business.
Kennedy will step down from her role at The Kennedy/Marshall Company and shift her responsibilities to partner Frank Marshall. Kennedy’s career includes SEVEN Academy Award nominations and roles as producer on large franchises like Steven Spielberg‘s Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. She has also worked beside filmmakers like Clint Eastwood, Peter Jackson, Martin Scorsese, Barry Levinson, Robert Zemeckis, and David Fincher. Kennedy previously held the position of governor and officer of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and currently serves as a member of the board of trustees. She is also a former President of the Producers Guild of America.
Lucasfilm gave no timetable for George Lucas’ retirement.
