Good news for Yosemite visitors about Big Oak Flat Road!
I’ve got good news and GREAT news!
The good news: Big Oak Flat Road is reopening.
The GREAT news: It is reopening THIS SATURDAY (a month ahead of schedule)!
Back on February 21, I wrote about a road closure on Big Oak Flat Road between the Foresta Road junction and El Portal Road (California Highway 140) junction, as the result of a rockslide on January 22 that showered the road with BOULDERS THE SIZES OF HOUSES! The closure was SUPPOSED to last until Easter and affected a major route to Yosemite Valley by Highway 120!
The extremely MILD winter experienced by most parts of California this year meant that road repair crews could work around the clock to fix the road, so that the road can open this Saturday, March 10, with only MINOR repairs unfinished, which are not likely to disrupt traffic.
The early reopening is good news for hotels and restaurants in the area, and even better news for tourists traveling to Yosemite Valley and other areas of Yosemite National Park!
