Heartworm? :-)

I wrote earlier about the Conficker (Downadup) worm that has now spread to 9 million Windows PCs by a hole in unpatched Windows (the patch is available), turning the machines into botnets of zombies that can be awakened at any time!

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, another worm, called Waladec is spreading, which attracts its victims with a Valentine’s Day related email! The email contains a page of a dozen hearts and asks, “Guess which one is for you?” Once you click an image, you are prompted to download a file (youandme.exe, onlyyou.exe, you.exe, and meandyou.exe according to US-CERT – please note that these file names might change at any time) that can install malicious code. The worm spreads by spamming the addresses of folks in the address book of your infected machine. The Waladec worm is brought to you from the makers of the Storm worm.

It looks like the Waladec worm adds an entirely new dimension to the expression,  “Happy VD (1, 2)!” :-)

Man, am I glad that I use a Mac!

Stay safe.
