Mapping Twitter and Flickr users worldwide!

Programmer Eric Fischer took data about where people were when they sent geotagged photos to Flickr and geotagged tweets to Twitter and mapped them as bright dots of light on maps! The results are beautiful maps that show city-dwellers tend to generate geotagged tweets more than non-city-dwellers, the continents with the heaviest Twitter and Flickr usage are North America and Europe, and Angelenos (what people in L.A. like to call themselves :-) ) use Flickr and Twitter a LOT! Fischer used a program that he wrote specifically for mapping, as he explained on his Twitter account.

Today, Twitter announced that 350 billion tweets are now delivered each day!

Fischer built worldwide maps and also city-specific maps (as shown well on this “detail” page) that include: Jakarta, Indonesia; London, England; Los Angeles, USA; Mexico City, Mexico; New York City, USA; San Francisco, USA; Sao Paolo, Brazil; Singapore, Malaysia; and more!

Enjoy the maps! Thanks, Eric!
