Give blood, Part 2

As I was donating blood today in the Pleasanton Center of the Bay Area Red Cross, I asked the person draining me :-) whether blood contributions in the Bay Area had improved (from the last time I wrote about donating blood).

She told me that there is currently a 1-day supply of blood in the Bay Area, and that much of the blood comes from farther east in the United States.

January is National Blood Donor Month. Find out how to be a donor in the Bay Area at this web site, or call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. There are even gift coupons and chances at prizes available for donors.

There are many reasons that people can be ineligible to be a blood donor (i wrote about some of them last time), so if you can donate, please do. One pint of blood can save up to three lives.

For all of you other readers – I am sure that the Bay Area is not alone in having a shortage of available blood. Please do what you can.
