CA State Parks: list of 70 possible shutdowns

On Friday, California State Parks officials outlined a plan that targets 70 of the 278 State Parks in California for shutdowns resulting from budget problems. Although the LA Times article states that the closure plan is “far from final,” I have seen enough stupidity in California government to worry seriously.

According to Anthony York in the L.A. Times PolitiCal blog:

“State lawmakers passed $33 million in parks cuts earlier this year, but [Gov. Jerry] Brown has not signed them into law. Whether the closures will be included in a final state budget this year is unclear, because the spending plan is still being negotiated. Administration officials said they do not intend to alter the parks budget further.”

California Governor Jerry Brown is scheduled to announce new state revenue projections and his revised budget on Monday.

State Parks Director Ruth Coleman said that if the closures do happen, they would not go into effect until September.
