3 guns and a dog
Well, a small corgi….
Governor Jerry Brown, who during a 1992 presidential debate had promoted a moratorium on gun sales, told a roomful of police officers yesterday that he owns “… three guns and a dog.” Opponents of the governor’s plan to transfer thousands of (nonviolent) felons from state prisons to county jails have tried to ridicule the plan as the “get a dog, buy a gun” plan.
Governor Brown said that it is perfectly natural for people to have those items in their homes, anyway!
And the California governor is CORRECT (this time)! 
Reporters in the room apparently missed the HUMOR in Brown spokeswoman Elizabeth Ashford’s refusal to further characterize Governor Brown’s firearms – “We don’t discuss the governor’s arsenal in detail.” Reporter Jack Dolan from the Los Angeles Times stated that the governor told the cops that “… he’s the proud owner of a small arsenal.”
Well, it’s nice to know that the governor can change his mind, which stands in contrast to the inflexibility and hypocrisy shown by his fellow Democrats in the California Legislature. As for the definition of “arsenal,” I trust that the LA Times was using the “a collection of weapons” definition and not the “an establishment for the manufacture or storage of arms and military equipment” definition.
Three firearms can hardly be called a collection of weapons (or an “arsenal”), however! Given that firearms are tools (not the demonic fetishes that some California politicians and members of the Press characterize them to be), we should LOOK at them as tools! And tools are used for different purposes….
How much work do you think that you could accomplish with THREE screwdrivers, or THREE wrenches in your “collection?” (Go ahead, pick any THREE you like!) The firearm that you use for paper target shooting is probably not going to be the one you choose for duck hunting! At least, I HOPE not!
In 2009, Jerry Brown, while California Attorney General, filed a friend-of-the-court brief siding with the National Rifle Association‘s attempt to overturn a gun ban in Chicago (which was successful). Brown stated, to the U.S. Supreme Count, that he feared “California citizens could be deprived of the constitutional right to possess handguns in their homes.”
While serving as Mayor of Oakland, Jerry Brown had the opportunity to see the misuse of firearms by a small percentage of Oakland inhabitants… the criminals.
All in all, the press conference statements seem to have been the rational statements of a very rational man.
