Scientists at Stony Brook University in New York have discovered, using brain scans of new lovers and of couples who have been together over 20 years, that about 10% of the mature couples had the same chemical reactions when shown the photos of loved ones as the couples who were just starting out. The results were cited in Britain’s Sunday Times.
Previous research had suggested that romantic love starts to fade within 15 months and disappears completely after 10 years.
Although rare, it is nice to have scientific evidence that love can last a lifetime.
