Bank of America bans all transactions to WikiLeaks

Waiting for the return volley…? :-)

Bank of America‘s move follows those made by MasterCard, Visa, and PayPal earlier this month.

I have never had Bank of America as my dedicated customer except when a “colleague” was on vacation, and I would CERTAINLY never say anything negative about them HERE. The “colleague” truly deserved to have Bank of America as her customer. :-)

Julian Assange told Forbes in November that WikiLeaks is readying for a release of documents about an American bank (Hey! All of them are so wonderful and competent, as shown during the recent financial crisis! 😉 ) In a 2009 interview with Computerworld, Assange told the interviewer that he had 5 GB of data from a Bank of America executive’s hard drive.

Gasp! :-)

WikiLeaks responded to the Bank of America announcement:

We ask that all people who love freedom close out their accounts at Bank of America,” WikiLeaks said on its Twitter page.Does your business do business with Bank of America? Our advice is to place your funds somewhere safer.

Many or most banks still use Windows®.

Maybe under your mattress…. :-)

Meanwhile, a YouTube video entitled “Rap News 6 – Wikileaks’ Cablegate: the truth is out there” has emerged. :-)

WARNING: deviation from linear thinking ahead! :-) Linear thinkers, have a nonlinear thinker read and explain this to you!

The Emperor’s New Clothes” (Danish: Kejserens nye Klæderis) is a fairly OLD (1837) short story by Hans Christian Anderson. Its popularity (it has been translated into over 100 languages) probably reflects its universal truth across many countries and cultures. (Interestingly, no one in the story hanged the child who spoke the truth. Assange may be as lucky. Or not….)

Well, it’s been entertaining so far. It should be even more entertaining when the Bank of America information (or whoever’s banking information) is released. No, I don’t bank with Bank of America. I have had close associations with many financial institutions (some of which deservedly no longer exist! :-) ), and other types of companies, as customers. I try to learn from my experiences.

(Note added January 9, 2011: A CNNMoney article yesterday about banks increasing fees for checking accounts said that:

“Chase said that on Feb. 8 it will be enrolling new customers in a new Total Checking account and charging them a $12 monthly maintenance fee.

Similarly, Bank of America announced that by the end of the year it would restructure its checking accounts and implement new monthly fees, ranging from $8.95 to $25.”

As I said, I try to learn from my experiences.)
