Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen shot to death in Beverly Hills
Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen, 64, was driving along Sunset Boulevard early today after attending the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre premiere of “Burlesque,” when multiple shots were fired into her Mercedes near the Beverly Hills Hotel. Beverly Hills police received a report of gunfire near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Whittier Drive at 12:23 PST this morning.
Police found Chasen alive in her car, which had crashed into a utility pole. She later died at Cedars-Sinai Hospital. Los Angeles County Coroner spokesperson, Lieutenant Fred Corral, said that there were “mulitple shots fired into the vehicle.”
Michael Levine, head of Levine Communications Office, has started a reward fund with a goal of raising $25,000 by next week. Police have no suspects in, nor motive for, the attack and murder.
(Note added November 19, 2010: According to police, there is not prevailing theory whether the attack was “road rage” or a planned “hit,” although speculation abounds.)
(Note added November 21, 2010: Ronni Chasen’s funeral was today.)
(Note added November 26, 2010: A report from the investigation has apparently been leaked to the press. Apparently, hollow-point bullets are controversial to one CNN reporter who probably knows nothing about them.)
