NASCAR in wine country

Northern California is not the first place that you would look to find NASCAR racing.

However, today, as thousands packed the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma (TV sports said that there were almost 100,000 spectators!), Jimmie Johnson won the Toyota/Save Mart 350, the first road-course victory of his distinguished career! Of the eight racing events at Infineon, the NASCAR event is the biggest.

(I am a fan of auto racing, but I did not attend THIS race.)

The average speed of Johnson‘s Number 48 Chevrolet was 74.361 mph. He benefited from a late mistake by Marcos Ambrose (who shut off his engine to save fuel and had trouble restarting it!) and took the lead back with five laps remaining.

Happy Father’s Day, all of you other Dads out there! We celebrated mine with a drive down Highway 1 from San Francisco to Pescadero.
