Color Managed Workflow and Monitor Calibration (Mac)

Tonight, I just want to share a link to great information on Apple’s site. In the excellent article on Building a Color-Managed Workflow, under The Basics of Virtual Color Proofing, is a discussion of the use of the Display Calibrator Assistant built into MacOS X Tiger. The Display Calibrator Assistant allows you to calibrate your monitor and create a custom ICC (International Color Consortium) profile for it. The article recommends calibrating and profiling your display about once a month (if color is important to you :-) ) because ambient conditions and the color on your display can change.

The Apple article says:

“To use the Display Calibrator Assistant, go to System Preferences and select Displays. Click the Color tab and then the Calibrate button to view the Display Calibrator Assistant screen. Check the Expert Mode box. Click Continue. The onscreen directions walk you through the calibration and profiling process. At the end, you can name and save a custom profile for your display.”

I provide the link above, because I found it more difficult to find the article on Apple’s current site, and the Display Calibrator Assistant is a very useful tool.
