Cisco security advisory for “highly critical” SIP flaw

Cisco Systems (San Jose, California) has issued a set of security advisories that detaisl 11 vunerablities in IOS, the operating system run by many of its products. One of the vulnerabilities is described as “highly critical” and could lead to system compromise or denial of service attacks.

The vulnerability that is rated “highly critical” affects (the widely-deployed) IOS version 12 devices that run SIP, a protocol used to set up and take down voice and video calls. Multiple vulnerabilities exist that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a reload of an affected device when SIP operation is enabled. Remote code execution may also be possible.

Additional details and recommendations are discussed in the last article cited.
