Apple is #1 in reliability survey…

… for the THIRD year in a row…!

This is hardly news to those of us who have been exposed to EVERYTHING on the desktop and MOST things on the server side, and who have chosen Mac. The good news is, more and more intelligent people are choosing Macintosh every day, regardless of what their retrograde IT department at work tells them.

And the news certainly won’t change the minds of die-hard (…and OFTEN! :-) ) PC users, who, for whatever reason, continue to use Windows, and of savvy PC users who run Linux…. I STILL believe (don’t you wish that your management were so open-minded?) that people should use whatever makes them most productive, but that they should look at their choices objectively. :-) I DO wish that they would stop trying to infect “the rest of us.” As for corporations (and other bureaucracies), The Dilbert Principle still applies to most, and you cannot generally expect management to make intelligent choices – look at the financial crisis if you have any questions. :-)

The annual survey of computer reliability was conducted by Rescuecom, a national tech support company that is based in Syracuse, N.Y. In a press release that was issued yesterday, Rescuecom president Josh Kaplan singled out Apple, Asus and, in a negative way, Dell:

“Apple finished the year with a higher score than Asus,” he wrote. “However it was Asus who won the spotlight with its impressive 190.7% growth, year over year.

“Conversely, Dell’s negative growth and poor reliability scores led to an increased need for Dell customers to seek computer repair. This performance stopped Dell from reaching a top five position.”

Rescuecom’s numbers do not include machines repaired by corporate IT departments (not many Macs THERE! [sadly]) or through manufacturer-supplied service, such as AppleCare.
