The employees’ choice awards
The career site, Glassdoor.com, has announced the top 50 best places to work for 2010, as chosen by the employees themselves.
Hardly surprising (to me, at least), tech companies did not make the top nine!
With a perfect score being equal to “5,” the top five companies, and their scores were:
- Southwest Airlines 4.7
- General Mills 4.5
- Slalom Consulting 4.3
- Bain & Company 4.3
- McKinsey & Company 4.1
A Southwest Airlines (SWA) Flight Attendee based in Oakland, CA said, “SWA knows that the employee is just as important as the customer.” (I like flying Southwest out of Oakland! I have never heard a company or an employee state that the employee is just as important as the customer before!)
So, where are the tech companies?
The top tech company was Juniper Networks, which placed 10th with a rating of 3.9. Google placed 14th with a 3.9 rating, followed by NetApp, also with a 3.9. Apple placed 22nd with a 3.8 rating. Online career site CareerBuilder took 26th place with a 3.7 rating. Adobe Systems had a 3.7 rating and dropped from 4th place last year to 29th place this year!
All in all, it is very interesting reading indeed, and it may help the unemployed with searches for their next company.
