Paul Newman
Although Paul Newman died at age 83 last Friday, September 26, 2008, I want to take a few moments to honor the legendary actor, tonight.
Paul Newman died at his home in Westport, Connecticut, after a long battle with cancer. His roles in films speak for themselves: “The Hustler,” “Hud,” “Cool Hand Luke” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Color of Money,” “Absence of Malice,” “The Verdict” and “Nobody’s Fool,” “Road to Perdition,” “Empire Falls.” Of course, there were so many others as well. Newman also provided the voice of Doc Hudson, in the Disney/Pixar film, “Cars.”
Although Newman was nominated eight times for Academy Awards in the Best Actor category, he won only once, for the role of “Fast” Eddie Felson in “The Color of Money” (1986), a role that he originated in 1961 in “The Hustler.”
Paul Newman will also be remembered for his bravery on the race track and for his quiet philanthropy, which will live on.

Two things that I did not know about Paul Newman was that he was born and raised in Shaker Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, OH, and that, in a profession filled with pseudonyms, his real name actually was “Paul Newman.”
We will all miss him. Fortunately, we will have much of his work, which also will live on.
