“Eight days on the road…”
Sure, these words are the lyrics to a song… but they also may be your “estimated time of arrival” in the Lake Tahoe area, if you’re not careful! 
It may surprise drivers from other states that the roads over the Sierra Nevada close with snow in the winter – some we choose to LEAVE that way! Others, like Interstate 80 and Highway 50, we try to keep open whenever possible.
Today, Interstate 80 was impossible and impassable. I-80 is closed from Colfax to the Nevada state line.
Highway 50 is open, but chains are required from Pollock Pines in El Dorado County to Meyers, NV.
Up to eight inches of new snow is expected in the Lake Tahoe area today, with a high temperature of about 35 F.
