Yesterday, my blog entry dealt with members of the California Legislature working on pet political projects this weekend (the example was AB2948, a once-dead but “resurrected” gun-control measure), while California has been without a state budget, for two months.
Today I received an email response from a California State Senator that the bill AB2948, which would have banned sales of firearms and ammunition in the Cow Palace, was narrowly defeated (19-20) in the California Senate yesterday (Saturday, August 30).
I have learned, in the immortal words of Yogi Berra, that “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.” In California politics, bad bills return zombie-like from the grave, as AB2948 did!
According to the San Francisco Chronicle article of 4 hours ago, Calfornia lawmakers finished work on their 2008 legislation today, but left the important task of approving a state budget UNDONE for a record-breaking 62nd day!
I emailed and faxed members of the California Legislature yesterday, asking them to focus on passing a state budget. Maybe you state employees (and other Californians) who have not done so (or even if you have) should do the same.
