Los Angeles: Grand Theft Auto…

…the sequel! Back to the “old country…”

Customs agents in Los Angeles recovered a 1965 VW van that was stolen from a Spokane, WA auto shop in 1974, in a shipping container bound for Germany!

The blue van, which was in pristine condition, was en route to Germany with several other vintage Volkswagens. The Arizona company that shipped the van had no idea that it was stolen. The van is now valued at about $27,000.

Customs and Border Protection agents run vehicle identification numbers of vehicles being exported, and they recover about one stolen vehicle each week, usually high-end luxury models.

The van is now owned by Allstate Insurance Company, which paid off the original owners after the theft. Allstate has not decided whether it will auction the van or put it to other use because of its history.
