Green, before it was fashionable…

I just came back from a gruelling morning/early afternoon (no, “gruelling” is not some esoteric game that we play in California…..well, maybe in Silicon Valley :-) …), and, since this is Saturday, started to save off Web site usage reports for the week.

Imagine my surprise (but not really) when I looked at the “Browser” stats and discovered that over 2/3 of the browsers to hit my site this week were the two latest released versions of Firefox! And that doesn’t even count OLDER versions of Firefox and those intrepid souls who are running some of the BETA versions of Firefox 3.0…! (Plus, there are many, many Safari users hitting the site!…)

Can you even imagine running the beta versions of SOME browsers?!! :-)

The whole experience made me remember a blog entry that I wrote WAY back in October of 2007, about an old green friend of mine and many others, Mozilla. If you are one of those “busy” :-) folks who don’t follow embedded hyperlinks in blogs (you will miss out on much in life), here is a repeat of some earlier links to the Mozilla Museum and a discussion of some early battles in Internet history.

Enjoy! BTW, the building behind Moz in the latter link is the one in which I worked for a DIFFERENT company that, unlike Netscape, did not have an annual margarita contest….(spam, spam, spam, tequila, and spam).

Good luck Moz (and Firefox)! (I use both Safari and Firefox.) (Note added August 27, 2008: Often I use them side by side. There must be some truth about more screen territory [17″ on this MacBook Pro] helping a person to be more productive.)
