BART extension groundbreaking today

Workers broke ground today for a $136 million Warm Springs extension of BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) in Fremont. Construction of the extension is scheduled for completion in 2014.

Fremont Mayor, Bob Wasserman said that the extension is a big deal. The extension is also important for neighboring San Jose, once the 5-mile extension connects with a 16-mile line into Silicon Valley.

As someone who commuted through Fremont and a number of other communities on the way to several different jobs in Silicon Valley, I understand the excitement. The daily trips would have been much more pleasurable on BART than in my automobile, and much safer than during ANY of my commutes with ANY of my vehicles.

Motorcyclists will understand it when I say that BART trips would not be able to compare to the enjoyment of my very long commutes on two wheels. :-) One of my instructors in my Motorcycle Safety Foundation beginner’s course described the feeling in this way, “You ride out for a loaf of bread and wind up in Tahoe!:-)
