How about THOSE Apples?

Apple announced today that over 2 billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store since the store’s launch in July 2008. There are now more than 85,000 apps available.

(Update November 7, 2009: Apple announced on November 4 that there are now over 100,000 apps available at the App Store!)

“The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.

There are now more than 50 million iPhone and iPod Touch customers, as well as over 125,000 developers in Apple’s iPhone Developer Program.

Apple has demonstrated, through its emphasis on innovation, quality, and design, that a company does not have to be mind-numbingly stodgy (definitions 2-5! :-) ) to be financially successful.

Since I have experienced a fair amount of mind-numbing stodginess firsthand, I am delighted to see the concrete proof.
