Suspect held in toll booth murders

Yesterday a man shot and killed Deborah Ross, 51, inside one of the toll booths at the entrance to the 7.5-mile Richmond-San Rafael Bridge at 5:55 PM and Ersie “Chuck” Everett, 58, who was seated in a vehicle parked in a lot at the toll plaza. Both people were shot with a shotgun.

The suspect drove off in a white 2005 Ford van with “Western Eagle Shuttle” printed in orange and blue letters.

Nathaniel Burris, 46, who lived with Ross and was in a “dating relationship,” was arrested just after 3 AM on Interstate 80 near Baxter, California, by the California Highway Patrol.

The killings appeared to stem from a domestic dispute, according to Sergeant Bisa French of the Richmond police.
